Between 2000 and 2006 France experienced BTV outbreaks with serotypes 2, 4, 9 and 16.
In July 2007 BTV-8 was isolated from an outbreak in north-eastern France. From here the disease spread through France.
In 2007 BTV-1 was also isolated in France
